With record inflation leading to a higher-than-normal cost of living, this holiday season may be more of a struggle than normal. And this is exaggerated in marginalized communities. Memphis is considered a majority-minority city — meaning approximately 63% of residents are Black. AND more than half of the city’s small businesses are also Black-owned businesses (BOB). While companies like Google do try to do their part to combat systemic racism, allowing users to easily search for a BOB near them, we still have to support these local businesses by buying directly from them over big box retailers.
We encourage you to not only shop local, but consider shopping one or many of these Black-owned businesses. “Choosing 901” is vital to growing our city’s economy and revitalizing our neighborhoods!
