Meet Karena Hardaway!

karena hardaway 2

Hi! My name is Karena, and I was born and raised in Orange Mound, TN. Now, Orange Mound isn’t the prettiest or best of neighborhoods, but it’s where I’ve been all my life. I’m a single mommy of an amazing little lady who captures the heart s of everyone she meets. She’s kind and compassionate, intelligent, a ball of fire, and truly God’s child. Extraordinary doesn’t even begin to describe her. I pour all of my hopes and dreams into her because, although I missed the mark on this thing called life, I know she’s going to hit it dead on. She brings out the best in me and that’s why I strive for better every day. We may be from one of the most blighted neighborhoods in town, but I am a firm believer that you do not have to be a product of your environment, and that if you work hard and pray harder you can and will get to what God has for you.

Other than that I don’t really know anything else to say. I set out on this writing adventure to do something other than “just” being a mommy. I consider myself to be a great mom, but I’m great at other things as well, and it was time to showcase them, expand my horizons, and do something for myself.

Now, my writing isn’t always politically or grammatically correct, but that’s okay. I’m just not that type of writer. I write from my heart and from the spirit. Writing has always been a part of my life–ever since I can remember I‘ve always had a pen or pencil in my hand, conjuring up something. I’m that type of person who can nail it on paper, but demolish it in person. I’m clumsy, my words don’t always come out right, I’m super emotional and I get nervous and tongue-tied when I speak in front of people. I’ve always been quiet and reserved, so much so that I feel I go unnoticed a lot. However, through my writing it is a completely different story. I have a voice that no one can ignore and I feel everyone can relate to, regardless of your background or circumstances. People tell me my writing and my voice are my God-given talents.

My stories are ones that I hope you all will enjoy, and I am excited to share with the moms of Memphis!

  1. Looking forward to reading your pieces. I am not a single mom but know so many friends who are and am glad they will have a voice here and also give those of us who don’t walk the path of parenthood alone a greater insight into how we can help and understand our mom friends that do!

    • Hello and thank you. I try to do just that. Lol give a little insight of the life of a single mommie. However I love all mothers, my heart just reaches out to single mothers a little heavier because that’s my truth, that’s my reality. ^_^

  2. Hi Karena! Welcome to the City Moms Blog Network! I joined the Fort Worth Moms Blog team last year. It has been an exciting adventure with a great group of women. I am enthusiastic about reading your posts. You have a beautiful little girl and cheers to *your* story! God bless!

    • Thank you so much. She’s truly my world. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have her ^_^
