January might not know whether or not to be cold or warm, but we knows there’s plenty of action-packed, family friendly things to do this month! Here’s a look at FUN things to do with your family this January:

  1. King Day 2020

    On Monday, January 20, our nation will observe the birthday of civil rights and human rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The National Civil Rights Museum will honor this legacy by offering guests activities, live music, kid-friendly games/crafts, and of course, free admission to the museum all day. In addition, if you bring a canned good, you’ll receive $2 off a future visit and if you donate blood at the annual King Day Blood Drive, you’ll receive a family four pack of entry tickets to be used any other day in 2020.   2. Visit Crosstown Concourse

    If it’s chilly outside, there’s plenty to do inside: from exploring the “Big Stairs” Library area on the second floor (take a book, leave a book!) to enjoying some ice cream at Area 51. There’s something for everyone! Check out their Facebook page for upcoming family events.

  3. Sign Language Classes for Kids

    Head over to the Cordova branch of the Memphis Public Libraries on Saturday, January 25. Class begins at 2:00pm. During this family friendly class, learn letters, colors, easy words, and sentences! All ages welcome; no registration required. 

  4. “Frozen” Party at Primas Bakery and Boutique

    Follow the snowflakes to S. Main where kids will enjoy “Frozen” themed treats, decorate cupcakes, color, and watch the movie! The event is from 12:30-2:00pm and each ticket is good for two people. Click here to purchase before they’re sold out!

  5. One Year Anniversary Night Climb at Highpoint Climbing

    Turn on your headlights on Wednesday, January 15, from 6:00-10:00pm for a night climbing party. Family friendly! Plus, drinks and desserts will also be offered. 

  6. There’s S’more love happening at Railgarten

    Who doesn’t love that ooey gooey combination of chocolate, marshmallow, and graham cracker? On January 24th from 7:00pm-11pm, bring the whole family for a sweet evening under the stars! Claim a fire pit and enjoy FREE and endless s’mores (while supplies last!)

  7. Wolf River 5K

    Kick off your New Year’s resolution with the first race of 2020 in the ‘Run the 901’ race series: the Wolf River 5K. Benefitting the Wolf River Conservancy, this race begins near the Wolf River Greenway trailhead off of Humphreys Blvd. Lace up those sneaks on January 18th at 8am. Head to www.wolfriver.org for entry tickets. 

  8. Confronting the Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls

    On January 23, Psychologist Lisa Damour, PhD, author of “Under Pressure,” will explain “normal” stress to parents and share coping skills. The talk will last from 6:30-8:30pm at Hutchison School and is free and open to the public. 

  9. Breakfast with the Birds at the Litchterman Nature Center

    Enjoy a delicious breakfast overlooking Mertie’s Lake, followed by a guided bird walk through the meadow and forest trails. Loaner binoculars available. Choose Saturday, January 25, or Sunday, January 26, from 7:30-9:30. Call 901-636-2221 to make reservations.

  10. Fab Fridays (January 17, 24, and 31) at the Pink Palace

    Starting at 7pm-10pm, take the kids to see this family friendly laser light shows! Shown in the AutoZone Dome Planetarium, enjoy a full sensory experience of exciting laser lights and music! Guests can also play Laser Jam — interactive MIDI instruments to create custom laser effects. Kids under 2 are free.
